Welcome to Archivetown!

The purpose of this website is to let users of Internet Archive present the data available there in a more "human-readable" form, with context and interconnections that aren't possible within IA's website alone.

IA contains endless petabytes of information, but how can we find it? Where should you put a link to that neat computer history story you found in a random PDF collection, or remember which shareware disc you got a neat 90s game from? You found sixteen discs of an eighteen-disc set in one collection, then two more in another - how can you help someone else find the rest without meticulously updating every single description?

You could run your own website, but who has time for that these days?

What Can We Do About It?

Let's make a repository of links and information about Archive's incredible content. It'll help us keep track of what we find, share our discoveries with others, make IA's content more discoverable, and above all else, advance the mission of all archivists: to keep information available and accessible to everyone.

What Belongs Here?

Anything you want, as long as it's focused on IA:

• Commentary on videotape rips
• Hand-collated lists of software titles you found personally interesting, with screenshots next to each one
• A ranking of comparative quality between shareware CDs
• Huge machine-generated tables listing every file in a collection with its metadata

The rule of thumb is, as long as there's a link to an item on IA, you're good!
